Workshops and Short Courses


Forisk offers standardized and customized short courses and workshops.  These courses are taught directly at client locations and through the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. All courses qualify for continuing forestry education (CFE) credits.

Courses use case studies, examples from our field experience, current industry events and Forisk research.  Agendas and content can be adjusted to meet the specific needs and interests of your group. Current courses include:

Forestry, Timber & Timberlands

Timber market analysis Teaches fundamental frameworks and skills for analyzing timber markets for timberland investment and wood procurement applications.
Risk management in forestry Introduces approaches for reducing risk and uncertainty associated with forest management budgets, timberland investments, and procurement activities.
International finance and forestry Details relationships between international finance and forest businesses, and summarizes current international timberland investments and markets.
Forest finance and economics Teaches applied financial tools and reviews fundamental economic concepts for forest management and timberland investment decision-making.
Excel applications in forestry Teaches intermediate level Excel-based applications to help forestry and wildlife professionals use Excel more effectively for solving problems in the workplace.
Timber REITs Explained REITs (real estate investment trusts) represent one avenue for investing in timberlands.  This course teaches the who, what, why and where of REITs that specialize in timber.
Communication & Professional Skills
Course Title Summary Description
Communication skills for natural resource professionals Introduces fundamental communication skills associated with speaking publicly, handling questions and answers in public settings, using visual aids, and organizing and leading meetings.
Communicating technical information to any audience Teaches techniques for better sharing and displaying technical information.  Includes strategies for using PowerPoint, figures, sophisticated business and research ideas, and statistical data.
Negotiating fees and contracts Focuses on the preparation, evaluation, and tactics associated with negotiating fee and contract-based agreements with potential clients and suppliers.
Providing feedback to colleagues and employees Teaches approaches to prepare for and deliver constructive criticism and positive reinforcement in the workplace.
