Founded in 2004, FORISK has worked with clients and partners throughout the U.S. and in over a dozen countries to answer questions and support decisions associated with timber and timberland investments, wood procurement, forest industry and bioenergy investments, and forest operations.

Brooks C. Mendell, Ph.D.    

President

Dr. Brooks Mendell has twenty years of consulting, operating, and equity research experience in forestry, finance and the timber and bioenergy industries. Dr. Mendell leads Forisk's research program.  His experience includes roles in harvest operations and procurement with Weyerhaeuser, in management consulting with Accenture, and as a member of the forestry and finance faculties at the University of Georgia. In 2004, he traveled to Uruguay as a Fulbright Scholar to teach courses in forest finance and to study the Uruguayan forest products industry. He is a member of the Boards of Directors for the Georgia Forestry Association and the University of Georgia Alumni Association. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA at the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Forest Finance at the University of Georgia.

Amanda Hamsley Lang    

Operations Manager; Managing Editor, Wood Bioenergy US

As Operations Manager, Amanda Lang oversees consulting projects and the Forisk Continuing Education Program.  She also leads Forisk's bioenergy research and serves as the Managing Editor of Wood Bioenergy US.  Prior to working with Forisk, she interned with International Paper in Augusta, Georgia and conducted forestry operations research at the Warnell School of Forest Resources under Dr. Dale Greene. In addition, she was a National FFA Organization proficiency winner in the area of forest management and products. Amanda received BS and MS degrees in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia.  

Heather Clark

Heather Clark joined Forisk in 2011 after four years of business management and customer service experience in the aviation industry. Heather manages Forisk's office, supports sales and marketing activities and assists Forisk subscribers. In addition, she supports short courses and workshops offered through the Forisk Continuing Education Program. Heather earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Georgia.

Danny Hamsley

Mr. Danny Hamsley, President of Hamsley Forestry, has 32 years of forest industry experience with P&G and Weyerhaeuser. In addition to direct on-the-ground experience in all phases of wood procurement and forest management, his relevant managerial and leadership experience includes state-level (Georgia), regional (South) and corporate (US-wide) roles in wood procurement, the development of wood procurement strategies, and timberland acquisitions and divestitures. Danny's analytical work includes domestic and international benchmarking of wood procurement systems and effectiveness. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Forest Business from the University of Georgia.

 

Tim Sydor, Ph.D. 

Dr. Tim Sydor joined the staff of the Center for Forest Business at the University of Georgia in 2012 to manage the Wood Demand Research Program and publication of the Forest Industry Shapefiles. His professional experience includes roles in forest economic modeling and forecasting with Forisk Consulting, in forest operations research at the University of Arkansas at Monticello and in forest management for the Tsuman State Forest Enterprise in the Ukraine. Dr. Sydor earned a B.S. in Forestry at the National Agriculture University of Ukraine, an M.S. in Forest Economics at Purdue University, and a Ph.D. in Forest Economics at the University of Georgia.
