 Understanding timber markets over time requires insights into the relationship between how the forest resource is being managed, who needs the resource, and what they need it for and when. Therefore, FORISK tracks current practice and new technologies in forest management, procurement, and operations.
Currently, we conduct research in areas including:
- Log (trucking) transportation;
- Seedling markets and nurseries;
- Wood procurement strategies; and
- Supply agreements and financial contracts.
The research emphasizes the current market situation, cost structure, and strategic issues associated for a range of forest businesses. In late 2004 and early 2005, FORISK conducted a log transport study in middle Georgia. A summary of the research can be viewed in our Log Transportation PDF.
